4 initial candidates emerge as Sixers search for new president of basketball operations
At a press conference last week with owner Josh Harris sitting by his side, Bob Myers was introduced as the main decision maker in finding the Sixers an everyday overseer of the team, after the firing of president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. He said the search would begin immediately and, per a new report, he was telling the truth.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Sixers have expressed interest in Oklahoma City Executive Vince Rozman, as well as Atlanta Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh. Stein also mentioned Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey and Nick U’ren, general manager of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, as candidates.
Myers said last week that he had not yet spoken about the new position with current Sixers general manager Elton Brand. Assistant general manager Jameer Nelson is expected to stay with the club and may be given a bigger role. Whether Brand stays or not may be his own decision.
Saleh — who has spent time with the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors — joined the Hawks in 2024 as the assistant general manager then moved into the general manager spot when Landry Fields was fired in April of 2025.
Rozman spent 16 years with the Sixers in a plethora of roles from 2006 to 2022, rising as high as assistant general manager in his least year with the organization. He has spent the past three seasons with the Thunder as vice president of identification and intelligence, where he oversees the draft process and player development for Oklahoma City.
Before moving into the assistant general manager job with the Cavaliers, Gansey was the GM for their G League affiliate — the Canton (now Cleveland) Charge — where he won the NBA G-League Executive of the Year in 2017.
U’ren has had a long career in the NBA, starting as an assistant video coordinator with the Phoenix Sunx in 2009-10. He moved to the Warriors in 2014 and had several jobs during his nine seasons there, including manager of advanced scouting, special assistant to the head coach and director of basketball operations. He took over as GM for the Mercury in 2023 and the team lost in the WNBA Finals last season.
Myers — who won four NBA titles while general manager of the Warriors — said he will be taking a more hands-on approach after the release of Morey, who spent six seasons as the team’s president of basketball operations. Ideally, he said, his hiring would happen in time for the NBA Draft, which begins on June 23.
