Jalen Hurts: ‘I need the white Kelly Green’

During the Eagles’ schedule unveiling video released Thursday evening, Jalen Hurts gave his take on the team’s wardrobe when Jordan Mailata asked Saquon Barkley whether he likes the team’s all-black alternates or Kelly Green throwbacks more.

“I need the white Kelly Greens,” Hurts opined.

The iteration of these white Kelly Greens was worn from 1985-1995. They haven’t been seen in a game since then, with the Eagles transitioning to Midnight Green as their primary shade in 1996.

In 2023 — with the NFL’s controversial two-helmet rule in the rearview mirror — the Eagles brought their Kelly Green throwbacks back. They’ve worn them seven times over the past three seasons, to much acclaim:

Could the white Kelly Green uniforms co-exist with both the Kelly Green uniforms and the black alternates? Well, the Eagles are going to be getting a “Rivalries” uniform in 2027, which is the NFL’s version of a City Connect. NFL Fashion Advice — a must-follow account on X — wonders if the Eagles could slide in the white Kelly Greens as their second alternate, and then refresh the black jerseys in some way to count as their Rivalries look:

Will this be doable in 2027? It may be tough. The Eagles might not want to mess with their current black jerseys, which are pretty popular. (Although, from here, the black-on-black thing has run its course. Bring back contrast. Put the black jerseys with Midnight Green pants and helmets again.) But it’s definitely a good idea for the future, especially when the NFL expands to 18 games during the regular season. The Buccaneers have both their creamsicle throwbacks in rotation as alternates now, and the Eagles should try to do that in the not-so-distant future with their Kelly Greens.
