Nick Sirianni on the Tush Push: 'People like this play'

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has seen the criticism of the Tush Push play. He's heard all about it, and he addresses it pretty regularly in postgame press conferences.

However, following Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sirianni pointed out something else about the play: a commercial he saw that morning during the Minnesota Vikings-Pittsburgh Steelers game, which was played in Dublin, Ireland.

"I'm watching the Ireland game, and I see this commercial... going, 'Hey, when in Philly,'" Sirianni said. "And they're sneaking it."

The commercial promoted the Tush Push, and that said something important to Sirianni.

"People like this play," Sirianni said.

The Eagles actually did not run the Tush Push in Sunday's game. However, they lined up in the formation a few times. During the Eagles' first drive of the game, they lined up in a Tush Push-esque formation, but without anyone in the backfield:

And then in the third quarter, the Eagles faced 3rd & 1 from Tampa Bay's 6-yard line. Of course, they telegraphed the Tush Push, but then offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo added a twist:

"It's an exciting play," Sirianni said of the Tush Push after Sunday's game. "Makes it pretty exciting, right?"

That's likely a jab back at Brotherly Shove detractors, who claim the play's automatic nature means it isn't exciting. The Tush Push variations showcased by the Eagles Sunday certainly give it a little more life in that regard.

"It seems like people and fans like the play, and it was pretty exciting to get a touchdown pass off it, or a touchdown run... That makes that play what it is," Sirianni said.

The Eagles like the play. Eagles fans definitely like the play. But it may take some convincing to get everyone else on board.

FOX Sports rules analyst Dean Blandino made an appearance in the broadcast booth during today's game, nestled right between commentators Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady. During Week 2's Eagles-Chiefs game, Blandino went on the record saying he was "done with the Tush Push" since he believes it's difficult to officiate.

Blandino slightly backtracked on that statement Sunday, admitting that he'd been a little overdramatic. He then discussed the play further with Burkhardt and Brady.

The segment was slightly out of left field; at that point in the game, the Eagles hadn't run a Tush Push. They'd only lined up in the pseudo-formation for Goedert's touchdown.

Blandino, of course, is the former NFL Vice President of Officiating. Putting him on camera – which is a rarity for NFL rules analysts – just to talk about the Tush Push seemed slightly targeted.

It isn't the first time someone connected with the NFL disparaged the Tush Push to a national audience, and it absolutely won't be the last. But Sirianni will keep running the play as long as he possibly can.
