On Pattison Picks: Will Eagles move to 3-0 with win over Rams?

While the Eagles ultimately blew out the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LIX, respectively, they nearly didn't get the chance to play in either game.

It took a Jalen Carter sack of Matthew Stafford deep in Eagles' territory to prevent the Los Angeles Rams from upsetting the eventual Super Bowl Champions in the NFC Divisional Round.

So as the two teams meet again this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, will the Eagles again be able to hold off the Rams? Here's what our staff believes will play out.

Game MVP: Saquon Barkley

It's more than fair to worry about whether Sean McVay will find a way to get a wide receiving corps that includes Puka Nakua and Davante Adams to take advantage of the shortcomings that the Eagles currently have at their No. 2 cornerback spot.

But the flip side of that is that when the Eagles and Rams met on Sunday Night Football in Week 12 last season, Saquon Barkley set a new single-game franchise record with 255 rushing yards. His longest touchdown was 72 yards.

In the aforementioned NFC Divisional Round game, Barkley ran for 205 yards, including a snowy 78-yard touchdown rush that's going to go down as one of the most iconic plays in franchise history.

There are questions with the Eagles right now, both in terms of their second cornerback spot and passing offense. But until the Rams prove they can keep Barkley from going yard multiple times, it's hard to pick against the Eagles in this matchup.

Game MVP: (Most Valuable Play) Tush Push

The Eagles' offense is looking a little Brian Johnson-ish over the first two weeks, but the Tush Push is still as effective as ever. It may be the last year for the Brotherly Shove, but after all the public consternation about it, the Eagles will lean into it harder, and will push and shove their way to a win over the Rams.

My second favorite thing to watch this week is the fans interaction with Jared Verse. It’s a fun little rivalry and one in which both sides get it and have fun with it, which is awesome.

Sunday will be the first time that the Eagles have worn this uniform combination at the Linc in a decade.

Game MVP: Davante Adams

Yes, Saquon Barkley is going to have a good game, as he tends to do against the Rams.

Unfortunately, as last week’s performance reinforced, the Eagles’ CB2 position remains a giant question mark. And that question mark is quickly turning into the giant alarmed exclamation point that pops up over video game characters’ heads.

The Cowboys exploited that weakness in Week 1 with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. It wasn’t as apparent against the Chiefs since their receivers are... not good. But the Rams boast an excellent one-two punch with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. In two weeks, Nacua has racked up 221 receiving yards, and Adams is sitting pretty at 157 yards.

I don’t think the Eagles secondary makes it out of this one alive.
