An Atlantic County school district recently got pulled into some Phillies drama.
It all started at Friday night's game where the Phillies faced the Marlins, and things took a dramatic turn in the stands in Miami.
As Harrison Bader hit a home run in the fourth inning, a man ran to where the ball headed, and snatched before running back to give it to his son.
But a woman who believed the ball was hers quickly walked over to the dad and confronted him. The man eventually gave her the ball, leading to his son — who was celebrating his upcoming birthday — getting Marlins merch in the stand and a bat signed by Bader during a meet-and-greet after the game.
The internet then went about identifying the "Phillies Karen," but apparently missed the mark worse than the Marlins in their 9-3 loss on the field.
Among several rumors, one included that she worked for the Hammonton School District, and was fired as a result of her actions.
Hammonton wasted no time in setting the record straight via social media.
After making clear that "'Phillies Karen' is not, and has never been an employee of the Hammonton Public Schools ...," the district then went on with virtual tongue firmly implanted in cheek.
"Anyone who works for our school district, attended as a student or lives in our community would obviously have caught the ball bare-handed in the first place, avoiding this entire situation."
It seems they aren't the Blue Devils for no reason.
Meanwhile, a woman from Moorestown, Burlington County, who was named as the fan also posted to Facebook that it was not her.
"OK everyone ... I'm NOT the crazy Philly Mom (but I sure would love to be as thin as she is and as fast)," Cheryl Richardson-Wagner wrote.
She then added the kicker, that the Massachusetts native is a Boston Red Sox fan.
Do better, internet detectives. Confirm, and then report.
