The National League finalists for the 2025 Silver Slugger Awards were announced Wednesday morning. Two Phillies made the list, and neither is a surprise.
Trea Turner is a finalist at shortstop, and Kyle Schwarber is a finalist at designated hitter.
Turner's 2025 season was his best as a Phillie. Under Rob Thomson's instruction, he re-worked his approach to prioritize getting on base, stealing bases and scoring runs over hitting homers. That new approach resulted in Turner averaging .304 and taking the 2025 NL batting title.
The other finalists at shortstop are Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets and Geraldo Perdomo of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Let's take a look at how their seasons stack up to Turner's:
Lindor, already a four-time Silver Slugger, had yet another excellent season. He started the 2025 All-Star Game at shortstop, and he's looking for his third straight Silver Slugger award at shortstop after taking home the hardware in both 2023 and 2024. Perdomo also excelled, leading all NL position players with a 7.0 WAR.
Schwarber had the season of his life. He led the NL in home runs (56) and led the major leagues in RBIs (132). He was just two dingers shy of tying Ryan Howard's franchise record of 58 home runs in a season, a record that was previously viewed as untouchable. A Silver Slugger award would surely be a boost for the NL MVP candidate as he enters free agency.
The other designated hitter finalists are Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers (surprise, surprise) and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers. All three DH finalists hail from 2025 NL division champions:
Ohtani is a three-time Silver Slugger at designated hitter, taking home AL honors in 2021 and 2023 and NL honors in 2024. Yelich is also a three-time awardee, with all three wins coming as an outfielder; he won one award with the Miami Marlins in 2016 and two awards with the Brewers in 2018 and 2019.
Schwarber and Turner are both vying for their second career Silver Slugger awards. Funnily enough, they have both already taken home Silver Slugger honors in the same season: in 2022, Turner won at shortstop as a Dodger, and Schwarber won as an outfielder following his first season as a Phillie.
The Phillies had three Silver Slugger finalists in 2024: Bryce Harper at first base, Alec Bohm at third base and J.T. Realmuto at catcher. Of the three, only Harper won the Silver Slugger award.
The 2025 NL Silver Slugger winners will be announced on Nov. 6.
