UPDATE: The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced in a statement Saturday evening that Mark Sanchez has been arrested for his alleged role in the incident that led to him being stabbed.
Police said Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for various misdemeanors including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication.
PHILADELPHIA – FOX Sports analyst and former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed Saturday in Indianapolis and is currently in stable condition, according to FOX Sports.
Sanchez, 38, is in stable condition in the hospital.
Sanchez played for the Eagles from 2014-2015, primarily backing up Nick Foles in 2014 and Sam Bradford in 2015. In 2014, he led the Eagles to a 4-4 record over eight starts while Nick Foles recovered from a broken collarbone. He started two games in 2015, and the Eagles lost both of them.
"IMPD is investigating a physical disturbance that happened near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street on October 4, 2025, around 12:30 a.m.," the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.
"The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds. Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence."
Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call the Indianapolis Colts' home game against the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday afternoon. Due to the injury, he will no longer be on the FOX Sports broadcast.
"Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition," FOX Sports said in a statement.
"We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family's privacy during this time."
Sanchez played 10 total seasons in the NFL, including the two he spent with the Eagles. Drafted fifth overall by the New York Jets in 2009, he led the Jets to two consecutive AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010. After his tenure with the Jets ended in 2013, he played for the Eagles, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins, all as a backup quarterback. He announced his retirement in 2019, and he is currently a color analyst for FOX Sports.
