Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (23) reacts after intercepting a pass during the first quarter of the wild card playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, January 14, 2024 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander informed the Eagles Tuesday that he is stepping away from football to "focus on getting himself right physically and mentally."

Alexander will decide on his future after taking time away.
The Eagles acquired Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens on Nov 1. Philadelphia sent a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Baltimore in exchange for Alexander.
Alexander was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2018 and was regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL for a long stretch. He signed a four-year, $84 million extension with the Packers in 2022, but was released in June.
The Ravens signed Alexander to a one-year, $4 million contract, but he appeared in just two games for them before being traded, and he didn't start in either game. This announcement may add some context as to why the Ravens were willing to move on from Alexander.
Alexander was slated to make his Eagles debut Monday against the Packers, his former team, but he was downgraded to out on Sunday and did not travel with the team. The Eagles cited his ongoing recovery from his knee injury and a coach's decision.
Alexander has indeed had a few lingering injuries this year that have contributed to keeping him out of games. It sounds like he needs more time to improve his mental health before he decides to return to the field, if that's what he chooses. Obviously that's the most important thing in this scenario.
