The Eagles are running unopposed in the NFC East

Just in time for election day, it appears that the Eagles are running unopposed in the NFC East.

That's not to say the Eagles have had a perfect season, but they'll return from their bye with a 6-2 record, with Jalen Hurts and company already seeming to have what feels like an insurmountable lead in the NFC East.

The Dallas Cowboys got worked at home by the Arizona Cardinals Monday night — which you probably didn't see if you're a YouTube TV customer — losing 27-17 to a team led by Jacoby Brissett.

With Dak Prescott at quarterback, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens at wide receiver and a resurgent Javonte Williams at running back, the Cowboys have an offense that could compete for a playoff spot.

The problem is giving up 27 points to a journeyman backup quarterback Monday wasn't a one-off, as Matt Eberflus' defense ranks 31st in both yards allowed per game (397.4) and points given up per contest (30.8). The Eagles already defeated the Cowboys in Week 1, and while the two teams will meet again at AT&T Stadium on Nov. 23, it's hard to see 3-5-1 Dallas seizing the division crown this year with their shortcomings on that side of the ball.

Meanwhile, the magic that the Washington Commanders had a year ago when they reached the NFC Title Game hasn't carried over to this season, as Dan Quinn's squad was throttled at home on Sunday Night Football by the Seattle Seahawks, 38-14.

Not only are the Commanders now 3-6, but reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow Sunday, which could end his season. Even if Daniels returns, it won't be for a long time. The Eagles don't see Washington until facing them twice in the final three weeks of the season — Week 16 at Lincoln Financial Field and Week 18 at Northwest Stadium — but by that point there's a very real shot the Marcus Mariota-led Commanders will be out of the playoff picture altogether.

And then there's the New York Giants, who did defeat the Eagles 34-17 in Week 6, but then lost 38-20 two weeks later in Philadelphia. The Giants really seem to have something in first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, which might mean in the not-so-distant future they return to playoff contention. But having lost both running back Cam Skattebo (right ankle dislocation) and wide receiver Malik Nabers (torn right ACL and meniscus) for the season, that probably won't happen in 2025.

So here we are on Nov. 4, and the Eagles winning the NFC East feels like fait accompli. That doesn't mean that there aren't issues that need to be resolved — such as getting A.J. Brown involved more consistently, while seeing improvements at cornerback and pass rush — for the Eagles to have a shot at repeating as Super Bowl Champions. But the TV networks better use the graphic about how there hasn't been a back-to-back winner in the NFC East since Andy Reid's Eagles did so from 2001-2004. In a couple months, it will probably be outdated.
