With the conclusion of the World Series Saturday night, nine Phillies officially became free agents Sunday.

Among the most notable are Kyle Schwarber, Ranger Suárez and J.T. Realmuto:

This is just a procedural matter, as these nine players had all played out their current contracts or arbitration eligibility. While trades can resume Sunday, these free agents can't yet negotiate or sign with a new team until 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, the fifth day after the conclusion of the World Series.

The Phillies will have to decide during that same five-day period whether or not to extend a one-year/$22.025 million qualifying offer to their free agents, with both Schwarber and Suárez certain to get and decline the QO. If either departs in free agency, the Phillies will receive a compensatory pick after the fourth round in the 2026 MLB Draft. Realmuto is ineligible to receive a QO because he already was given one by the Phillies after the 2020 season, and you can only be saddled with it once in your career.

In the coming days, this list of Phillies free agents could grow. Within five days of the World Series concluding, teams need to decide on contract options. The Phillies have a $9 million club option on José Alvarado, which comes with a $500,000 buyout if declined. It appears overwhelmingly likely that the Phillies will exercise Alvarado's option. Harrison Bader has a $10 million mutual option. The Phillies will probably pick up their half of that, but Bader will almost certainly decline his, take a $3 million buyout and try to get a multi-year deal in free agency, be it from the Phillies or someone else. Because Bader was traded during the 2025 season, he can't be given a qualifying offer.

So yes, the 2025 MLB season is over. But expect there to be plenty of baseball news over the next week.
