Jean Segura — who became a fan favorite during the Phillies' improbable 2022 run to the World Series — has officially retired.

Segura was acquired in a trade that saw the Phillies send J.P. Crawford and Carlos Santana to the Seattle Mariners in December of 2018. His four seasons with the Phillies included some trials and tribulations, but he finished on about as high of a note as possible in October of 2022.
In Game 1 of the NLWCS, Segura delivered a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Phillies would go on to win the game 6-3, with the ninth-inning rally that Segura was a huge part of largely credited for igniting this era of the franchise's success:

Segura also turned in a tremendous performance in a Game 3 NLCS win over the San Diego Padres later that postseason:

2022 proved to be Segura's final season in Philadelphia, as the Phillies pivoted to sign Trea Turner after losing to the Houston Astros in the World Series, with Bryson Stott sliding over to replace Segura at second base. But that postseason cemented his place in Phillies history.
During a 12-year career that also featured stints with the Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Mariners and Miami Marlins, Segura hit .281 with 1,545 hits and two All-Star Game appearances. He also had one of the strongest throwing arms at second base that you'll ever see.
