For a player that's delivered so many extra-base hits in his career, this was hardly a vintage swing for Harper. Nonetheless, it produced the same amount of runs as a solo shot would have.
Before the night was out, Harper drove in another run, this coming in the form of an RBI single that plated Trea Turner in the top of the ninth inning. The Phillies defeated the Pirates 8-4 to improve to 26-18 on the season.
After the game, Harper reflected on what it means to him to have driven in 1,000 runs in his career.
"Yeah, obviously you always want more and there's a lot of baseball ahead of me and this team as well. Obviously, having moments like that are really cool on a personal level," Harper said. "And [it's] really cool to be part of that company, part of that history. Topper read some names, and just to be part of that is just a really cool moment for me and pretty awesome."

Harper's first RBI of his career came at Dodger Stadium in his Major League Debut on April 28, 2012. He drove in Rick Ankiel with a sac fly in an eventual 4-3 extra-innings loss for the Washington Nationals.
Harper would go on to drive in 521 runs during parts of seven seasons with the Nationals. Now in his seventh season with the Phillies, Harper has 480 RBIs since putting on red pinstripes.
The 1,001 career RBIs for Harper put him eighth among active players, behind only Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Andrew McCutchen, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Santana and Manny Machado.
