The Phillies had a solid April (and March) overall, despite some ups and downs. Their 17-13 record puts them on pace for 92 wins.
Here's On Pattison's April grade for each individual player on the team's active roster as of May 1:
J.T. Realmuto: C
Realmuto hit .237/.308/.361 (.669 OPS) in April. That's not awful, but the Phils need more out of their veteran catcher. He smacked a home run in the last game of the month, so perhaps the notoriously streaky hitter is gearing up for a great May.

Bryce Harper: B-
Harper hit .234/.370/.423 (.793 OPS) with five home runs in April, which would be pretty good if he weren't Bryce Harper.
There's nothing to worry about here. Harper had some bad luck on hard-hit balls throughout the month. We expect his average and OPS to get near his career numbers soon.
Bryson Stott: A+
There was talk before the season that Stott was never fully healthy in 2024. That seems entirely possible, considering his hot start to 2025: .297/.374/.436 (.810 OPS). Stott has been fantastic in the leadoff spot: working counts, reaching base, and collecting seven steals without getting caught. He added two triples and two home runs in April, scoring 17 runs and driving in 15. As usual, the second baseman also played tremendous defense.

Alec Bohm: D+
Bohm's overall April numbers are brutal: .221/.252/.274 (.526 OPS) with no home runs. But he has hit .308 with a .741 OPS since April 14. Expect the third baseman to have a better month in May.
Trea Turner: C-
Turner's .718 April OPS and single April HR isn't going to cut it at the plate, and his defensive miscues continue to frustrate. The grumbling that the shortstop should change positions will continue to get louder if he can't clean up the mistakes.
Turner did have a three-hit game and a four-hit game as the month neared its end, so maybe he is on an upswing.

Max Kepler: B
Kepler is meeting any reasonable expectations thus far with the Phillies. His .253 April batting average and .753 OPS are above his 11-year career numbers (.238 average, .747 OPS). The new Phillie also has six doubles and three home runs, but just seven RBI.
Johan Rojas: B+
Rojas hit.304 in 56 April at-bats. That'll play.
The speedy centerfielder made some uncharacteristic mistakes in the field, however, bumping him down from A/A- territory.

Nick Castellanos: B-
Castellanos played well in April, slashing .270/.328/.423 (.751 OPS). He hit eight doubles and three home runs while driving in 16 runs.
Kyle Schwarber: A+
The big man is doing what he does best: blasting nukes. Nine of them, to be exact, with 23 RBI. Schwarber's April OPS is a shiny .936.

Edmundo Sosa: A+
Sosa got off to a blistering start and sports a .359/.381/.462 (.843 OPS). Hopefully, the Phillies can find a way to get him more than his 42 April plate appearances.
Rafael Marchan: Incomplete
Marchan has two hits in 16 at-bats. Can't really give him a grade based on that small sample size. Realmuto is supposed to rest more often this season... We'll see if it actually happens.
Cal Stevenson: Incomplete
One hit in six at-bats for Stevenson.
Weston Wilson: Incomplete
One hit in four at-bats from Wilson. Back from injury, we expect to see his right-handed bat in the lineup fairly often.
Zack Wheeler: B
Wheeler went 2-1 in seven April starts, posting a 3.48 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. He struck out 57 batters in 44 innings. Those numbers may earn some pitchers an A, but Wheeler gets dinged because our expectations for him are so high.

Cristopher Sanchez: B
Sanchez is another player whose grade reflects high expectations. His numbers over six April starts were strong: 3-1, 3.45 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 39 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.
Aaron Nola: D
Nola went 0-5 in six April starts, with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He struck out 37 batters over 35 innings. The long ball continued to plague him, as he allowed six home runs.
A silver lining? Nola's best start was his most recent outing, against a good Cubs offense: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB,6 K, 0 HR.
Jesus Luzardo: A+
Luzardo has been nothing short of spectacular for the Fightins in six starts: 3-0, 1.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 41 K in 36.1 IP.

Taijuan Walker: B+
While the grades for some players suffered because of high expectations, the opposite effect is at play with Walker. In five April starts: 1-2. 2.78 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 20 K in 22.2 IP.
The eye test says Walker has been a little lucky. But the results have been better than anyone could have hoped.
Jose Alvarado: A+
Alvarado is the most trusted name in the bullpen right now: 3-0, 1.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 21 K in 14.2 IP, and five saves in five opportunities.

Matt Strahm: A-
Strahm has been the second-most reliable bullpen arm: 1-1, 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 16 K in 12 innings.
Tanner Banks: A-
Banks has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 13.1 innings, striking out 16.
Carlos Hernandez: F
6.55 ERA, 1.91 WHIP in 11 innings.
Orion Kerkering: D
5.56 ERA, 1.68 WHIP in 11.1 innings.
The Phillies really need Kerkering to be a reliable high-leverage RHP.
Jordan Romano: F
12.19 ERA, 2.03 WHIP in 10.1 innings. Woof.
The Phillies say Romano fixed an early mechanical issue and may have been tipping pitches. Fingers crossed for a big turnaround. If Kerkering and fellow RHP Romano both continue to struggle, the team is in trouble.
We have a reached a point where future Phillies pitcher who struggle will be compared to a baseline question- “Was he Jordan Romano bad?”
Joe Ross: D+
5.02 ERA, 1.33 WHIP in 14.1 innings.
Jose Ruiz: C-
4.76 ERA, 1.41 WHIP in 11.1 innings.
