The Angels designated Scott Kingery for assignment on Tuesday, marking another chapter in the former Phillie's fall from grace.
In his Phils career, Kingery slashed .277/.373/.489 (.862 OPS), averaging 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases per 600 at-bats.

Kingery's major league numbers in the regular season were, uh... slightly different: .229/.280/.387 (.605 OPS), averaging 17 home runs and 14 stolen bases per 600 at-bats.
Last 6 games, Scott Kingery is 2-for-25 with 12 strikeouts. Adjustment time. Never a high-strikeout guy in the minors, about 100 K's every 600 plate appearances.
The Phils famously signed Kingery to a six-year, $24 million contract before he ever played a big league game, buying out his arbitration years and what would have been his first three years of free agency. The deal, signed in March 2018, was seen by many at the time as a savvy move on the part of the Phils. Kingery had hit .304 with an .889 OPS across AA and AAA ball in 2017, smacking 26 home runs and stealing 29 bases. He was the Phillies' No. 2 prospect, and generally ranked between No. 30 and No. 35 in all of baseball.
The club also loved Kingery's defensive versatility. He eventually played games at every position but catcher during his MLB career, even pitching in mop-up duty once.
Scott Kingery is pitching. He is lobbing the ball so slowly it is not being picked up by the stadium gun. It's like coach pitch. This is an embarrassment
Kingery made his last MLB plate appearance in 2021. In 2024, after his six-year contract had run its course, 30-year-old "Scotty Jetpax" posted an .804 OPS with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases in 125 games for AAA Lehigh Valley.
Those numbers piqued the Angels' interest last winter. But if Kingery is going to make it back to the majors, he'll now have to find a different team.
