Does every player need to get a 'thank you' graphic after they move on?

  • Eagles

We need to have a conversation.

Yesterday evening, the Eagles sent out a thread of graphics on X thanking players who have moved on via free agency or trade this week. This is not a critique of the Eagles social media team, who do a great job. The "thank you, *insert former player*" graphics have become generic across the sporting world. Heck, they may even be mandated.

But while it's understandable to send out graphics thanking Josh Sweat, Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Milton Williams, it does feel like there needs to be a cutoff point of who gets the graphics:

This is not meant to dis any of these four players. Perhaps when you win a Super Bowl, it increases the number of "thank you" graphics. But Isaiah Rodgers spent one season with the Eagles. Kenneth Gainwell was a distant second to Saquon Barkley on the depth chart. Kenny Pickett played well in his one start and it was a cool story that he got a ring with the team he grew up rooting for, but he attempted 42 passes as an Eagle. With James Bradberry, there's not even a picture of him in a jersey with the updated wordmark because he missed the entire 2024 season.

Perhaps this question would have been better directed at the "Am I The Asshole" subreddit. Football is the ultimate team game, and the Eagles just won the Super Bowl. But it feels like if you give a graphic to pretty much every player that moves on, the gesture becomes meaningless.
