Money has a funny way of changing minds.
Especially absurdly large sums of money.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Myles Garrett will remain with the Cleveland Browns, despite requesting a trade in early February:
From trade to truce and beyond: the Browns and Myles Garrett reached agreement today on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and now makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, sources tell ESPN.… pic.twitter.com/scNWJH2vFX
"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent," said Garrett in his February statement. "The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."
Garrett's trade demand set off a firestorm of speculation regarding potential trade partners, with Howie Roseman's Eagles cited more often than any other team as a landing spot for the future Hall of Famer. With the Birds, the pass rusher would have had a shot at a Super Bowl ring.
That ring is probably not in Garrett's future with the Browns. But something tells us he's going to sleep just fine at night after his decision.
