The future is now for the young Philadelphia Eagles secondary.
Due at least in part to the emergence of rookie defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in 2024, the Eagles are moving on from veteran DBs Darius Slay (in a move announced Monday) and James Bradberry (in a move announced Tuesday).
The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was among the first to report that the Birds would release Bradberry.
The #Eagles are releasing veteran DB James Bradberry, source said. He will be designated as a post-June 1 release.
Like Slay's departure, Bradberry's exit does not come as a surprise. He was named a second-team NFL All-Pro in 2022 after joining the Birds on a one-year contract. The organization rewarded Bradberry with a three-year contract before the 2023 season, but the veteran DB did not play well in the first year of the new deal. He then tore an Achilles prior to the 2024 season.
Bradberry will be long remembered in Philadelphia for a controversial holding penalty near the end of Super Bowl 57.

The Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski reports that Bradberry's release will provide the Eagles with about $2 million of salary cap relief in June.
