Kyle Schwarber makes franchise history with latest home run as Phillies defeat White Sox

Kyle Schwarber's milestone home runs never seem to be fence scrapers, and the titanic blast he hit in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox was no different.

As part of a four-run third inning, Schwarber belted a two-run shot off of White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon that traveled 441 feet:

For Schwarber, it was his 37th home run of the season. He's the first Phillie to hit 37 home runs in a season before the calendar flipped to August. Granted, the 2025 season started on March 27, as opposed to the 2006 season — when Ryan Howard hit a franchise-record 58 home runs — beginning on April 3. Howard also had an other-worldly finish to the 2006 campaign. Nonetheless, the Phillies began play in 1883, so even with the necessary caveats, to set any franchise record is something worth being proud of.

Brandon Marsh also had quite the day as well. In addition to catching all three outs in the bottom of the first inning, he went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run:

For Marsh, it was just his fourth home run of the season, and first since July 2.

Meanwhile, Jesús Luzardo's hot and cold season continued. After posting a 7.23 ERA across his first four starts of July, Luzardo finished the month on a high note by pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits. Luzardo did load the bases in the first inning, but ultimately cruised for the rest of the evening, striking out four batters and walking one:

Daniel Robert allowed three runs in the ninth, two of which came courtesy of a Lenyn Sosa home run. But Robert was able to get out of the inning without Orion Kerkering having to come in for a save attempt.

With the win, the Phillies improve to 61-46, temporarily putting them a game back of the NL East-leading New York Mets, who are currently playing the Padres in San Diego.
