NEW YORK — In a sea of 47,018 fans at Yankee Stadium Friday, Kyle Schwarber managed to find a trio of Phillies loyalists to send his 1,000th career hit to.
The 1,000th hit of Schwarber's career came in the form of a no-doubt-about-it shot into the right-center field seats. It was Schwarber's 35th home run of the season, the first of two he would hit in a jaw-dropping offensive performance during a series-opening 12-5 Phillies win over the Yankees:

After the game, the trio of Phillies fans who caught Schwarber's home run got to meet him outside the visiting clubhouse. In exchange for the ball that was Schwarber's 1,000th career hit, he brought out a pair of signed baseballs. When he realized that there was a third member of the friend group, Schwarber said he would go sign another one quickly. The third friend that didn't yet have a signed ball put his right hand on Schwarber's shoulder and told him that he didn't care about the signed baseball, he just wanted him to re-sign with the Phillies. Schwarber laughed, got another signed ball and gave it to the third friend.
It was the type of tale that you would hear about Babe Ruth when you were a kid. Friday, Schwarber looked like the Bambino hitting in the Bronx.
Schwarber reflected on the moment with the fans following the 59th win of the season for the Phillies.
"I mean, I think it's great, right? That for everything that we do here in the clubhouse ... how we prepare and how we work ... obviously, you show up to the field every single day trying to get a win at the end of the day. I think our fans kind of latch onto that," Schwarber said. "It's been fantastic these last three-and-a-half, four years now the support that we get from our fans. It means a lot to me that they attach themselves onto our team, myself, whatever it is. We can feel that support, and yeah, I always appreciate it.”

After his second multi-home run game of the season, Schwarber now has 36 home runs, 82 RBIs and a .960 OPS. It's been the kind of season that even his teammates — many of whom are accomplished in their own right — find themselves in awe of.
"He's been incredible for us all season long," J.T. Realmuto — who also homered Friday — said. "What he’s meant to this team and this offense, it’s hard to put into words.”

Taijuan Walker — who was serviceable over 5 2/3 innings Friday, despite allowing three solo home runs — also spoke glowingly about Schwarber.
"It's unbelievable," Walker said. "I guess, I give the team a chance to win, our offense can put up some runs fast. And having Schwarber as hot as he is right now, it's unbelievable."
Multiple times in the last 10 days, it's felt like Schwarber has reached the pinnacle of his season. And then, he's found yet another level. At this point, you'd be a fool to bet against him turning in another monster performance in the near future, perhaps as soon as Saturday afternoon.
