Phillies fans were surprised by pitcher Cristopher Sánchez's omission from the 2025 NL All-Star Game roster. They're not the only ones; Trea Turner felt the same way.
"I'm shocked about Sánchy," Turner said to Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "Honestly, I couldn't believe Sánchy didn't get in. ... I think the voting has happened a few weeks ago, and so much changes in those two, three weeks leading up. So I don't remember Sánchy's numbers when we were voting, or the fans were voting, but I can't believe he's not there. ... He's having a great season. I think he's probably a top-five pitcher in the NL."
Turner, who currently leads the NL in hits, was also a notable snub from the All-Star Game, but his assessment of Sánchez as a top pitcher in the NL is true across numerous notable statistics.

Among NL pitchers, Sánchez's ERA of 2.59 ranks fifth, his 107.2 innings pitched rank sixth, his 116 strikeouts rank eighth, his .229 batting average against ranks 11th, and his 1.13 WHIP ranks 12th.
For reference, the pitchers with the top four ERAs in the NL made the All-Star Game. So did the pitchers with the sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-ranked ERAs. Sánchez, ranked fifth, did not.
"I won't lie, it got me by surprise," Sánchez told The Inquirer through an interpreter. "But those are things that happen. There's still a small chance it might happen; we've just got to keep our focus on our work."
Sánchez is right. There will be All-Star replacements, and he's got a decent chance to be named one. However, he is in line to start Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres, and the All-Star game is the following Tuesday, so that may hurt his case.
Nevertheless, looking at the numbers alone, Sánchez's statistics have improved even since he was selected in 2024. He is absolutely deserving of an All-Star selection.
