Multiple Comcast Spectacor sources confirmed to On Pattison that the Sixers' plans for a new arena near Chinatown have changed and the team will be staying in South Philadelphia.
Although legislation recently passed to get the project rolling, the Sixers have reportedly struck a deal to remain in the South Philadelphia sports stadium district, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Ernest Owens of Philly Mag was first to report the news.
The Inquirer also reported that the Sixers and Comcast Spectacor will work to build a new arena in South Philadelphia. The Sixers and Flyers (Comcast Spectacor) will be equal partners in the new arena, according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
According to Kevin Kinkead of Crossing Broad, Comcast and the Sixers intend to join forces for a bid at a Philadelphia WNBA team.
A "revitalization project at Market East" is part of the Sixers' agreement to partner with Comcast, per Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports.
