The Sixers acquired guard Jared Butler and four second-round picks from the Washington Wizards for Reggie Jackson and a future first-round pick, according to Mike Scotto.
Butler, 24, was on a two-way contract with Washington. The Sixers already had all three two-way spots filled. To make room, Philadelphia is waiving Pete Nance from his two-way contract, a source confirmed to On Pattison.
Butler will be a restricted free agent this summer unless the Sixers convert him to a standard NBA deal before the end of the season.
According to Adam Aaronson, the first-round pick the Sixers are sending out is the least favorable of the 2026 firsts of Oklahoma City, Houston and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Aaronson also reported that the incoming second-round picks are a 2027 more favorable of Golden State and Phoenix, 2028 Golden State, 2030 more favorable of Phoenix and Portland and a 2030 Washington.
Butler has some creative juice with the ball in his hands, something the Sixers desperately needed in their reserve units when Tyrese Maxey went to the bench. They had a couple surprisingly good runs, but those Jackson and Kyle Lowry backcourts induced headaches. Frankly, Jackson over-dribbled so aimlessly that I often wondered if he got it in his contract that he was paid by the dribble. So, no more watching him pound the life out of possessions for 10 seconds straight.
The only real downside to this deal is that the Stepien Rule comes into play for Philadelphia. Because the Sixers sent out that 2026 first-round pick, they no longer have the ability to trade their own 2026 first-rounder. You could make a strong argument that that pick would hold significant value around the league, rival teams willing to bet against Philadelphia's standing a year from now given age and injury concerns for Joel Embiid and Paul George.
Now, the earliest tradable first-round pick the Sixers have conveys in 2029.
Other than that, getting an interesting young player and four lottery tickets for one bad first-round pick is good work.
