He was President when the Eagles won Super Bowl LVII, but did not attend

The Eagles will have an unexpected onlooker at the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday - President Trump.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Trump will attend Super Bowl XLIX, marking the first time he attended the big game as president.

He was president when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in February, 2018, defeating the New England Patriots 41-33, but was did not attend the game. Trump did welcome the Eagles to the White House later that year to be recognized.

Trump has not come across as much of an Eagles fan, though. He congratulated the Kansas City Chiefs on social media after they won the AFC Championship, but ignored the Eagles.

As part of his appearance at the Super Bowl, Trump will also have a pre-taped interview with Fox News' Brett Bair that is scheduled to be part of the pre-game show on Fox.

The President either appearing live at the Super Bowl or being part of the pre-game show on the broadcasting network was pretty standard for many years prior to Trump's first term in office.

Since then, both Trump and former-President Joe Biden have been inconsistent with that tradition, but Trump actually attending the game is definitely a novel concept in the fifth Super Bowl of his presidential career.

Trump did attend an NFL game in Pittsburgh between the Steelers and the New York Jets last October as part of his presidential campaign, but he has had a frothy relationship in his career, both as a businessman and as a politician, whether it was as an owner of a USFL franchise in the 1980s or criticizing the players for kneeling during the National Anthem in recent years.
