Report: Warriors called Sixers about Paul George

Well, deadline week is upon us:

As we learned over the weekend, no one in this league is untouchable. The only guy who is guaranteed to be on the roster after the deadline is Joel Embiid, and that's because his contract extension was signed at a time that would make him ineligible for trade during this season.

But, big shocker, a team desperate to capitalize on Steph Curry's twilight is looking anywhere and everywhere for an All-Star-caliber player. Take note that Shams Charania says that the Warriors made the call, not the Sixers.

The only thing to add - and this is opinion, not reporting - is that there is long-term downside that Philadelphia should consider if it were to seriously listen to any talks regarding George. If this writer were the agent of a client Philadelphia was seriously pursuing in future free agencies, there would be two strategies. One would be to ask for an overpay to compensate for the risk of being traded in the first year of a long-term deal. The other would be to ask for a full no-trade clause. As the Phoenix Suns have come to learn, full no-trade clauses are quite the kick in the pants.
