Ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles' game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has reportedly taken on a greater role with the struggling offense.
According to ESPN's Tim McManus, Sirianni has been "more involved in the offensive preparations this week."
Team sources told McManus that Sirianni has been more vocal in offensive meetings and has been "presenting material alongside offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo." While Patullo continues to run the meetings, one source shared that Sirianni has addressed the offense for longer than usual at the beginning of the meetings before handing it over to Patullo.
For the majority of his head coaching tenure with Philadelphia, Sirianni has taken on a CEO-like role. Although his coaching background is on the offensive side of the ball, Sirianni has not regularly called plays for the Eagles since his first season in 2021. One source noted to McManus that Sirianni's role allows him "to go where he is needed most," and at the moment, the Eagles' biggest area of concern is the offense.
The Birds' offensive woes are well-chronicled, but the numbers speak for themselves. The offense averages just 304.8 total yards per game, good for 24th in the NFL and a huge step down from 2024's 367.2 yards per game. Over their last four games, the Eagles have averaged just 15.5 points and have lost their last two contests.
Patullo has been the main target of the public scrutiny, since the Eagles offense under him looks like a shell of its former self under Kellen Moore. Sirianni reiterated his support for Patullo after Nov. 28's loss to the Chicago Bears, which drew further ire from the Eagles fanbase.
So even though Sirianni still has Patullo's back, him stepping in – even slightly – is an admission that something is very, very wrong with the 2025 Eagles offense. Although the team sits at 8-4, they're clearly on shaky ground. It's Week 14, and it's high time for a change.
