Actually, the Phillies will apparently be playing the Twins at the 'Field of Dreams'

Update Aug. 24 at 12:25 p.m. ET: The Phillies will play at the "Field of Dreams" next summer, but both the opponent and timeframe Nightengale reported appear to be inaccurate.

Matt Gelb and Dan Hayes of The Athletic report that the Phillies will be the road team for the game, and they'll face off against the Minnesota Twins. Additionally, the game will be in August, not in June, as Nightengale said. That timeline checks out considering the two previous games at the venue were held in August.

Prior to Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals, Thomson was asked about potentially playing in the game next year.

"I think it'd be a great opportunity, but I don't think I've heard that," Thomson said.

Original Story

Two years after the NL East rivals met in London, the Phillies and New York Mets are primed to face off at another marquee location in 2026.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Sunday that the Phillies and Mets will play at the "Field of Dreams" next summer:

The 2026 MLB schedule will be released Tuesday and is set to feature a return to the Field of Dreams venue in Iowa with the Philadelphia Phillies facing the New York Mets in mid-June. The last game played at the Field of Dreams was in 2022 with the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

The stadium — which is at the site of the iconic 1989 film starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones — has hosted two previous games. Nightengale alluded to the second one in 2022, but the summer prior provided one of the most iconic regular-season games in modern MLB history.

The Chicago White Sox ultimately walked the New York Yankees off on Aug. 12, 2021, courtesy of a Tim Anderson game-winning home run into the corn field:

Frankly, it's surprising that MLB hasn't been at the location for three seasons now, but exciting to hear that people will again be coming to the field that's been built in Dyersville, Iowa in 2026.
