Emmitt Smith is 55 years old. He was a 26-year-old running back for the Cowboys the last time Dallas won the Super Bowl (or even reached the NFC Championship Game).
That title drought seems to bother Smith a little bit.
"I’m sick of it," Smith said recently on The Ticket, a Dallas sports talk radio station. "We have allowed others to nitpick at the star and make fun of the star and that's what happens—now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, [the Eagles] win two Super Bowls and they think they’re the best thing on the planet, and everywhere I go I hear, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m sick of hearing, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to get to us."
Ahhhhhhhh hell yeah that's the good stuff. Music to the ears of Birds fans who lived through the 1990s, when Cowboys fans ridiculed the Eagles for being "ringless" (despite Philadelphia's NFL Championships in 1948, 1949, and 1960).
Smith was a huge part of Dallas' success and popularity during an era of suffering for Eagles fans.
Now that the tables have turned, Smith doesn't want to hear "Go Birds."
What a shame.
"It bugs me, because in my heart, I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade," the Hall of Famer added.
Well you just keep on believing, Emmit Smith. Good for you. In the meantime...
