Alec Bohm is back in the lineup for the Phillies for Sunday's series finale, playing third base and hitting fifth.
Rob Thomson indicated Friday that the Phillies planned to have Bohm go on a two-day rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley as he worked his way back from a left hand strain that's sidelined him since Aug. 29.
But evidently, the Phillies saw all they needed in Bohm's first rehab game Saturday when he went 2-for-4 for the IronPigs. He was activated prior to Sunday's game, with the Phillies designating catcher Aramis Garcia for assignment to make room for Bohm on the 28-man roster.
It is noteworthy that at least for Sunday, Thomson has elected to keep Nick Castellanos in the cleanup spot in the lineup and instead have Bohm — who has a team-best 89 RBIs — hit fifth.
Prior to his injury, 2024 had been a career-year for Bohm, who made his first All-Star Game appearance in July. Even after missing a couple weeks, Bohm still leads all NL hitters with 44 doubles.
