Friday night's game against the New York Mets is the final time that the Phillies are scheduled to wear their City Connect uniforms during the regular season. But will it be the final time that the polarizing threads appear during the 2024 campaign?
A source told On Pattison that the City Connect uniforms are eligible to be worn during the postseason, but it's to be decided whether they actually will be.
Perhaps the biggest factor will be whether the Phillies have any home games on a Friday during the postseason, because that's when the uniforms have been worn.
Even if the Phillies do have a game at Citizens Bank Park on a Friday during the postseason, the organization will have to decide whether they want a possible iconic moment to occur in the boldest uniforms that the franchise has ever worn.
Over the past two years, the Phillies have worn both their powder blue throwbacks and now retired red "getaway day" tops in playoff games, although the latter wasn't worn for all games that fit the description. Both those uniforms are much more in line with the organization's history, though.
While the City Connect uniforms have caught on with some fans — particularly younger ones — they no doubt have their detractors as well. At the same time, wearing the uniforms during the postseason might help to continue to get fans used to them. It also would surely increase City Connect jersey/merchandise sales.
In a related note, the Phillies did mow one of the City Connect logos into the center field grass for Friday. We'll see if it's the final time that midnight navy and yellow are worn by the Phillies in 2024.
