‘Sorry and Disappointed’: Nick Sirianni Apologizes for Late-Game Jawing With Fans

  • Eagles

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni apologized for his antics at the end of the team's Week 4 win over the Cleveland Browns during his meeting with the media Monday afternoon.

"What I was really doing, is I was trying to bring energy and enthusiasm yesterday," Sirianni said. "And I'm sorry and disappointed on how my energy was directed at the end of the game. My energy should be all-in on coaching, motivating and celebrating with our guys. And I gotta have better wisdom and discernment of when to use that energy. And that wasn't the time."

FOX cameras caught Sirianni seemingly jawing with Eagles fans at Lincoln Financial Field at the end of an uneven 20-16 win over the Browns:

After the game, Sirianni — with his three kids at the podium with him — offered little insight into the exchange, other than to repeatedly say that he was "just excited to get the win."

Sirianni went out of his way Monday to praise Eagles fans.

"We have the best fans in world, there's no place like this," Sirianni said. "And they show up and show out, no matter where we are ... Brazil, Arizona, New Orleans, it doesn't matter. And in that game too, I thought it was really loud and energetic. And those two false starts that the Browns got that forced a field goal ... they're fourth-and-eight at the eight-yard line and then they get a penalty and don't go for it on fourth-and-13. Who knows how that goes. And so, our fans brought the energy, brought the passion, brought the juice."

Fortunately for Sirianni, the next two games for the Eagles will be on the road. The Eagles will travel to East Rutherford in Week 7 to play the New York Giants, before a trip to the jungle to play the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. By the time the team returns home to host the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9, this could all be a distant memory if the Eagles have gotten hot. Then again, if the Eagles continue to look like an underperforming team, Sirianni will likely hear deafening boos the next time he coaches at Lincoln Financial Field.
