Two days after Garrett Crochet was traded to the Boston Red Sox, Kyle Tucker — another big-name target the Phillies reportedly had interest in — has been dealt elsewhere.
The Houston Astros are trading Tucker — a three-time All-Star who is entering his contract year — to the Chicago Cubs. ESPN's Jeff Passan was the first to report on the trade being finalized, while Jon Heyman of The New York Post and both Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic also provided details:
Kyle Tucker to the Cubs for Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith is done, pending medicals, sources tell @TheAthletic
The Cubs will be getting back third baseman Isaac Paredes, whom they acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays last summer. Paredes is 25 years old, and has posted a .776 OPS over the last three seasons. He's got three remaining arbitration years before free agency. Also going back to Houston is third baseman Cam Smith, a 21-year-old who was selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft and was ranked as the No. 7 prospect in Chicago's system. RHP Hayden Wesneski is the final piece. He's 27, and has posted a 3.93 ERA across 190 career MLB innings.
Joel Sherman of The New York Post reported earlier this week that the Phillies were among a quartet of teams who had checked in with the Astros in regards to Tucker.
Earlier today, former MLB general manager Jim Bowden said on MLB Network Radio that he had heard the Phillies offered Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos for Tucker, a trade package that the Astros rejected:
Phillies offered the Astros Nick Castellanos & Alec Bohm for Kyle Tucker. The Astros declined.

Whether you believe that exact proposal was presented to Houston or not, it's evident that the Phillies didn't put forward an offer that enticed the Astros more than the one they ultimately accepted from the Cubs.
